Garden Orientation on May 8th from 6pm-7pm
We practice natural gardening. No chemicals, no-till, and soil health first. Don’t worry if you’re new to natural gardening. Our collaborative community is focused on education and ensures guidance and tips are available to help you tend and mulch your plot. Together, we grow healthy soil, wildlife habitat, nutritious food, and a thriving community! All gardeners, including those who have had plots in previous years, must attend one of the orientation sessions, or contact a board member to receive the information required before using a plot.
GUIDELINES
- I agree to pay $20 per plot for the use of the PRBCG during the growing season (or $15 for a 4’ x 8, raised bed plot or group of
circle beds). I understand that fees must be paid prior to plot assignment through PRB Community Education, and that plots, located
on PRB School grounds, are assigned on a first come/first served basis. If I choose to utilize the sweat equity option in place of a fee, I
will make this arrangement with the Garden Board or PRB Comm Ed representative. - Should I be a repeat gardener from the previous year, I have preference to “rent” the same plot(s) as used previously, and will
indicate that by April 1st , this includes anyone seeking “sweat equity” arrangement. - I agree to attend one of the orientation sessions provided, or to contact the board for alternate arrangements for receiving the
information necessary before using my plot. - I will notify the board by June 1st if I decide not to use my plot.
- I agree to maintain my garden to PRBCG Board Standards. Should my plot not meet those standards, I understand I am forfeiting
my right to garden in the current & subsequent seasons. - My plot is 15 x 15 feet. I will work to keep all my plants within the limits of my garden plot, and keep my plot and nearby pathways
free of weeds, pests, and diseases. - I agree to place weeds in designated area outside the garden parameters OR chop and drop on my garden plot to feed the soil and
mulch the plants. - I will clear my plot of all debris, plant supports, etc. by October 31st . Cover crops & mulch should be left on plots.
- I agree to attend or have a representative present at planned gatherings of the PRBCG. Garden meetings and work parties scheduled throughout the season are a chance to get to know my fellow gardeners and assist with garden upkeep and special projects.
- I commit to using organic gardening methods and will not use chemicals (fertilizers, pesticides, etc.) in or near the gardens.
- I will only plant tall plants and vines in places where they will not shade nor interfere with my neighbor’s plot. I will plant perennials only in designated areas.
- I will keep trash, litter and rocks cleared from the plot, as well as from adjacent pathways and fences. I will take responsibility for removing all refuse that is not composted.
- I will be respectful of the availability of water. I will report all leaks, shut off faucet when done watering, and keep hoses on the path, not in the other gardener’s plot.
- I will not smoke, chew tobacco, drink alcoholic beverages, use illegal drugs, or gamble in the garden. I will not plant any illegal plant. I will not come to the garden under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. I will not use fireworks or make fires. I will not bring weapons or pets or other animals into the garden.
- I understand the garden tools are for everyone to use and will therefore clean and return them promptly after using them.
- I recognize that power equipment will be operated only by individuals over the age of 16 at their own risk.
- If I bring children to the garden and introduce them to the wonders of gardening, I will monitor their behavior and whereabouts atall times.
- If I choose to listen to music I will use headphones so as not to disturb the tranquility of the gardens.
- I will make sure all the tools are securely locked away and that the gate is closed & locked if I am the last gardener to leave, regardless of the time of day.
- I am responsible for my own safety and that of any children I bring to the garden.
- I am responsible for accurately reporting service hours in regards so sweat equity to the membership coordinator within one week of service.
- I will use common courtesy, be considerate of my gardening neighbors, and ENJOY.
Photo Permissions: From time to time, gardeners, garden leaders and the media will take photos of the garden. Please indicate in the comment box

know when you encounter them in the garden.
